On Wednesday at 2:29 p.m., officers assigned to the Gulf Coast Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force attempted to stop a vehicle near the 4200 block of North Ben Jordan Street in the City of Victoria.
Authorities identified on Thursday a 28-year-old man who was shot and killed by a U.S. Marshals Service official during a traffic stop the day before has bA een identified as JD Javier Lane, of Victoria County.
Lane’s mother, Mona Gallegos, 44, of Victoria, tells the Crónica “I’m so lost for my baby, the law is suppose to protect us”. JD Lane leaves behind an 8-year-old son. His girlfriend, Gallegos said, is six weeks pregnant with his second child.
In the aftermath of Lane’s death, community advocate, Anna Harris, created a Facebook group called Justice for JD Lane with more than 770 members calling for the investigation of Lane’s death to be justified. Anna Harris, the founder of JUST-US, a group that works with indigent defendants in Texas. Harris and another organization called the Texas Jail Project aim to provide a more robust and complete public defense — assistance not just with the charges themselves but also with the cascading consequences of an arrest and prosecution.
A candlelight vigil has been set for JD Lane on Saturday, January 8, 2021 at the parking lot where he was murdered.
