Scaffold worker dies after fall in Ingleside

A scaffold worker who fell off an offshore rig near the Kiewit Offshore Services construction site in Ingleside, Texas died this afternoon says San Patricio County Sheriff Oscar Rivera.

The scaffold worker, the next of kin and Justice of Peace Susan Price identified the man as 29 year old Ricardo Jazael Laredo Padron of Aransas Pass, Texas. It was around 3:15 p.m. when the fall happened while Ricardo was building a scaffold. The Ingelside and Port of Corpus Christi Police responded to the scene. It was shortly after 4:30 p.m. when the Aransas Pass Police Marine Division recovered Ricardo from the water after a search and rescue effort was ongoing by Coast Guard. He was found underneath the offshore rig. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) is investigating the circumstances of the death, which is standard in any industrial fatality. The department has six months to investigate the incident and to issue citations if there were any violations, such as whether he had a fall harness and a floating vest.

According to Crónica sources, Ricardo fell more than 20 feet from the top of the scaffold and hit his head on the barge before landing in the Corpus Christi Bay. Ricardo’s body dissapeared underneath the offshore rig in a high current.
