Pregnant woman loses life after crashing at hospital on way to deliver baby

A pregnant Destiny Cortinas, 25, was on her way to deliver her newborn baby when she lost control of her vehicle at a Corpus Christi hospital on Tuesday, December 28, 2021.

The collision happened at the Corpus Christi Medical Center’s Bay Area Hospital located on South Padre Island Drive around 6:45 a.m. The white vehicle slammed into the doctor’s coded gate wall and first responders had to use the jaws of life to rescue the occupants in the vehicle that included the pregnant woman’s mother.

Gracelynn Stump, the mother of Destiny Cortinas, was the driver in the vehicle. She suffered serious injuries from the accident and is recovering at a local hospital. Police say she will be facing intoxication manslaughter charges after she is released from the hospital since she was the driver. According to police reports, the kithrr accelerated past a gate and slammed into thr hospital wall. Police say she was under the influence of an unknown substance.

First responders had to use the jaws of life to pry the white Mercedes Benz and were able to save the unborn child’s life, but the mother, Destiny Cortinas was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

25 year old Destiny Cortinas passed away on Tuesday, Decemeber 28, 2021.
