Orange Grove, Texas– As of Friday Jordan Garcia, 17, along with four other minors have been charged with unlawful restraint. Garcia was taken the Jim Wells County jail while the four teens were transported to a juvenile facility. Names of the minors will not be released. The hazing video scandal occurred at Orange Grove High School by some members of the high school football team.
After a formal complaint by a 16-year-old teenager, school officials on May 3rd notified Orange Grove Police to investigate the allegations. Video footage of the incident was submitted to authorities. As of Friday, A sixth student 17 year old Luke Inglis is wanted by local authorities. The 16 year old victim was sent to the Child Advocacy Center in Corpus Christi for an interview.
Much debate has erupted on social media about the nature of incident in this small town. Many are calling for more serious charges of sexual assault and possible pornographic charges to filed after a video of the incident made its way through a popular social media platform.
Orange Grove Police Department has called in the Texas Rangers and Jim Wells County Sheriff’s office to assist with the investigation. The case has now been filed with the Jim Wells District Attorney’s office.
Unlawful restraint, a state felony in Texas is punishable with no more than two years or less than 180 days in jail.
