Man Charged With Injury To Child After Hurting 1 Year Old Girl

The Corpus Christi Police Department has arrested a man for injury of a child after the 1 year old girl was found unconscious at the Latitude Apartments on the 6400 block of Weber Road.

According to the police, 1 year old Jesselle Lopez was found unconscious and was rushed to a local hospital as paramedics performed CPR. Police detained 31 year old, Mark Anthony Hernandez, after police investigated the area and wanted him for questioning. Hernandez was the boyfriend to 1 year old Jesselle Lopez’ mother. The mother Briana Garcia was not arrested and remained in the hospital with Jesselle Monday night.

As police further questioned the suspect of the incident, police arrested and charged Mark Anthony Hernandez for “Injury to a child” after the one year old girl was found to have a skull fracture and cut to the leg at the hospital. The child was in critical condition Monday night after her heart stopped and was placed on a ventilator, according to the aunt.

Another 3 year old child was displaced from the apartment and was last seen leaving with police from the crime scene. The 1 year old biological father was devastated about the news and was out of state working. He was reported to be taking an airplane back to Corpus Christi.

As for the suspect, Mark Anthony Hernandez, his bond was set at $30,000 by a municipal court judge at the Corpus Christi City Detention Center and was being transported to the Nueces County Jail by Sheriff deputies for booking.
