Man catches a wicked 876 pound tuna off Port Aransas

As reported by the Port Aransas South Jetty, Troy Lancaster of Port Aransas, Texas brought in what appears to be a state-record bluefin tuna on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. The fish weighed in at 876 pounds and was 121 inches long. The state-record bluefin tuna, caught in 1985, weighed 808 pounds and was 103 inches long.

Lancaster and friends were fishing for blue marlin about 160 miles off Port Aransas when he caught the bluefin tuna. He first hooked the fish at 9:20 a.m., and it took him until 6:30 p.m. to bring it on deck. Lancaster said that it took more than an hour to get the bad boy into the boat. He was fishing aboard the Quantified with Captain Justin Drummond.
