Former City Councilman Emett Alvarez files for Mayor of Victoria

Former city council member, Emett Alvarez, has filed to run for Mayor of Victoria. Alvarez was elected to serve Victoria City Council District 1 in 2012 and was re-elected in 2016. On his campaign website, Alvarez says he wants to be an “hands on mayor”.

There are three candidates running for the city’s mayors sear after Rawley McCoy passed away in March. Rawley McCoy’s son, Tim McCoy is the Nueces County Law #1 judge for juvenile court.

Three candidates are currently in the mayoral race. They include Emett Alvarez, David Crook, Jeff Bauknight.

Emett Alvarez said he has the time to dedicate to Victoria as Mayor and believes his strong background in business and economic development will help him being a mayor. Alvarez goes on and says he supported Rawley McCoy’s vision when he was elected in 2020.

The special election is set for Saturday, July 3 and early voting starts June 16-29.
