Former Citgo executive announces bid for Nueces County Commissioner

Larry Elizondo, a former Citgo executive, has announced his candidacy for Nueces County Commissioner Precinct 2 seat. Precinct Two includes Bishop, Petronila, southwestern part of Corpus Christi and southwestern corner of the County.

Elizondo has an extensive background in business and politics in the Nueces County area that includes being former Corpus Christi City Counciman for District 5 and former General Manager of Citgo Petroleum Corporation. Elizondon even serves on non-profit boards and committees such as Red Cross, Mission of Mercy, and Big Brother/Big Sister.

In a Facebook post, Elizondo invites the public to a gathering for support.

The current seat holder in Precinct 2 in the Nueces County Commissioners Court is Joe A. Gonzalez (JAG). Joe A. Gonzalez (JAG) was elected as Nueces County Commissioner for Precinct Two in November 2010 and was re-elected in November 2018 for his third term.

Prior to taking office, Gonzalez had a 21-year career with the U.S. Department of Justice where he worked probation, parole and bureau prisons. He retired in 1999 and was elected Nueces County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1, Place 1 for nine years. He was instrumental in initiating and developing the Truancy Reduction Alternative Program Solutions known as TRAPS which incorporated various tools to help the schools with the poor school attendance and truancy epidemic in Nueces County.

The election will be held in November of 2022.
