The Port of Corpus Christi Authority‘s Director Sean Strawbridge and Port Chairman Charlie Zahn, under our scrutiny for insider dealings with Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales, announced the Port has entered into a Secret Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) to develop billion dollar California green energy in direct competition with Port customers in the oil and gas industry.
In a complete turn around from their mission, the Port of Corpus Christi’s Sean Strawbridge has instituted a 100% renewable energy goal like California’s failed policy—and wants the oil and gas industry pay for it via franchise fees. In Sean Strawbridge’s own words, “the intention is developing renewable energy infrastructure on Port-owned property to provide renewable power like California does.” What’s even more significant is the powerless Port Commissioners didn’t even get to consider this major policy in open session or discuss it with their appointing bodies, the City of Corpus Christi, Nueces County, and San Patricio County. Sean Strawbridge announced the Port is now getting involved in risky and costly wind energy and solar energy all by himself! This new action threatens the expansion of our Port as a leading crude oil exporter, threatens our local economy and local jobs!
The Cronica would like to challenge the Port Commissioners: Charlie Zahn, Catherine Hilliard, Wes Hoskins, Rajan Ajuja, Rick Valls, David Engel, and Dr. Bryan Gulley to develop major policy in open session, open up in person public comment, end five hour secret executive sessions that appear shady to us, and open up public bidding processes! Most importantly—Don’t let California Sean Strawbridge mess with our public Texas Port!
