Calallen High School student with gun struggles with police

A Calallen High School student was arrested Friday after he allegedly brought a gun to the school Friday.

At approximately 1 p.m. at Calallen High School located at 4001 Wildcat Drive, police sent out an emergency code after a student was approached by police near the baseball field when a struggle ensued between officer and student.

After a brief struggle, police notified over the airwaves that the student had a gun. Multiple law enforcement agencies immediately responded. The officer was able to subdue the student and a paramedic was called for the student to be checked out by medical staff.

Officers at this time are making sure that students are not in further danger and what charges the student will be facing are unclear.

Calallen High School was placed on locked down until further notice. As the student arrested was a minor, police will not be releasing their name.

The Crónica strongly encourages parents / guardians who are gun owners to properly secure their firearms in their homes so that kids don’t have easy access to them. We recommend using a gun safe or gun lock.
