Three people were found dead in a home on the 2100 block of Escondido Drive in Portland, Texas on Saturday, August 14, 2021 around 1:30 a.m. Police suspect double murder suicide.

In the quite suburban neighborhood, neighbors on Escondido Drive are in shock after they say a loving family were found dead. According to police, they found Roel Garza with a gunshot wound to the head, 36 year old Jennifer Nicole Phillips shot in the face, along with their 5 year old son Eli Garza also shot in the face.

According to Portland police, Roel Garza summoned police to his home at 1:30 a.m. and hung up. According to two neighbors, they say another neighbor, who is a police officer, was outside in his back yard at that time of the shooting and didn’t hear the three gunshots from inside the Garza home. He was interviewed by police to verify Roel Garza’ voice due to the uncertainty of whether Roel Garza was the one who called police.

One neighbor said that Jennifer was a nurse at Driscoll Children’s Hospital and the Portland suburban neighborhood will be changed forever. The neighbor also says that Jennifer Phillips would put together block parties and Christmas parades every year for the neighborhood. The neighbor says “Roel Garza was nice and I can’t believe he would do that, he was a very respectable man”. Another neighbor says Roel Garza would make all the neighbors BBQ plates.

As for the motive for the double murder-suicide, it is still unclear and the Portland Police investigation continues.
