28 year old victim identified in Campbell Street homicide; no suspect named

On Friday, January 14, 2022 at around 6:40 a.m. the Corpus Christi Police Department was dispatched to the 900 block of Campbell Street for a shots heard call. Several minutes later, dispatch recieved another call for a man down. When police arrived they found a man shot inside of a red Jeep at the intersection of Campbell and Lee Street.

On a foggy Friday morning police responded to a man shot on the 900 block Campbell Street.

Police believed the man to be dead on arrival, but paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:14 a.m. Police say it is the latest homicide and investigators closed down the intersection looking for evidence and home surveillance footage.

Homicide investigators gathered evidence at the crime scene on 901 Campbell Street.

Several family members have identified the victims vehicle and later identifed the deceased man as 28 year old Jorge Hernandez who passed away from the Campbell Street shooting.

A homicide investigation is underway and police have not yet released any information on a suspect. Several neighbors who live nearby say it is a quiet neighborhood and are concerned about the city’s latest homicide.
