14 year old stabbed at Jim Wells County Fair in critical condition

The Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a incident where a 14 year old was stabbed Saturday night at the Jim Wells County Fairgrounds.

At approximately 10:30 PM, a fight broke in between several juveniles. At some point during the fight, one male juvenile was stabbed and shots could be heard in the park near the carnival area. At that time, the scene had been secured and no persons were found with injuries consistent with a shooting, however this incident is still under investigation.

Alice Police Department, Jim Wells County Constable’s Office, Alice Fire and Texas DPS were assisting with the scene. The juvenile has been identified as 14 year old Jason Benavides. He was transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital where he is in critical condition this Sunday afternoon. His family says he’s in ICU after undergoing surgery for blood clots in the kidney and a punctured intestinal area.

As for the suspect or suspects, no one one was arrested. According to sources, the 14 year old was stabbed by a 20 year old man. The fight that broke our was due to an arguemenent over the 14 year olds girlfriend. This is a developing story, stay tuned for more updates.
