1 year old Jesselle Lopez declared brain dead

On Wednesday, 1 year old Jesselle Lopez was declared brain dead by doctors at Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, according to the biological father, Jesse Lopez. It was on Monday police were dispatched to the Latitude Apartments on Weber Road for a baby that was unresponsive. When police arrived they found the 1 year old girl blue in the lips and began CPR as she rushed to the hospital.

According to police, they arrested 31 year old Mark Anthony Hernandez at the scene after questioning and determined there was enough evidence for criminal charges. Police also said additional charges were coming.

31 year old Mark Anthony Hernandez was arrested for Injury to a Child and is in the Nueces County Jail on a $30,000 bail bond.

On Wednesday, the Crónica spoke to the biological father of Jesselle Lopez. Jesse says he was out of state working in Michigan when he recieved a phone call about the injuries to his daughter. Lopez was able to get back to Corpus Christi after flight delays due to severe thunderstorms in the Coastal Bend.

Today, Jesse Lopez in an exclusive interview says the mother has not let him see his two children for over two months and still has Jaselle’s Easter baskets at home. Lopez in tears says that doctors have notified him that there is no brain activity in baby Jesselle’s brain and the family has 36 hours to take her off the ventilator. Lopez says he wants criminal charges brought on the mother who knew of the child abuse with 31 year old Mark Anthony Hernandez prior to Monday’s incident.

On Wednesday at 8:07 p.m. Jesselle Lopez passed away due to her injuries and the Lopez family has made a Gofund Me account to help with burial expenses.
